You've reached the online gallery of Sal Strom, internationally known Northwest artist. (Résumé) I create innovative figurative art with a distinct Northwest flair. My work conveys my passion for life and love, the interweaving of social and personal identities, and processes for keeping communication open and alive.

My art is fueled by research into the holistic body: anatomy and form, spirit and motion. The link to motion begins with my family name, Strom, which means "flow" or "current". Movements of the dancers I photograph imbue my work with the motion of life. The dancers' ability to move gracefully in real time and the camera's ability to freeze that motion in 2 dimensions create a bridge between the flow of the human form and the flow of paint on substrate. I strive for fluidity, sensuality, and magnetism in my work, drawing emotions to the surface and laying them out for all to see.

Life's energies come to us from many places. The holisitic body produces mental, physical, spiritual, and sensual energies. Combining these energies into the creative self leads to a life full of love and passion. Strong colors and bold strokes of kinetic intensity capture emotions and carry the truth of universal tensions. Imagery takes form as metaphors for the meanings of life.

My art strives to release the viewer from life's chaotic surroundings. When released from the surroundings, we are free to decode the energy of chaos and arrive at a more integrated life, a place where control and release can live together. A place where personal resolution frees and liberates the body toward passion, desire, determination, and energized truth.
